It was great to have our family and friends share this special day with us. We were limited on the amount of people who we could invite so some people got left off the list and to those people I am sorry. I think what makes it worse is that we invited people and they rsvp'd that they were coming and then never showed up. Not one time have I ever done that to someone and never will I because now I realize the expense put into a wedding. I think the thing that amazes me is that these people who I have considered friends havent even called me or emailed me and said "hey sorry I couldnt make your wedding this or that came up." Its just been NOTHING.. Look if your mad at me have the stones to say so, thats what my friends do, they expect it of me and I expect it of them. And if thats something you cant do then let me know we arent friends an I'll move on. Enough said you know who you are. Tiffany and I will be running our first event as a married couple this month when we head down to Galveston to run the Mardi Gras Half Marathon. We have already decided that we will run hogs hunt 50k this yr and we have a 50 miler planned before 2012 gets here. It should be an exciting first yr as husband and wife. :-)

Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-47254572313136134692010-11-07T08:31:00.000-08:002010-11-07T08:51:05.513-08:00Rocky RaccoonMy last post was in February and as hard as I tried I couldnt convince myself that I was still a runner. Since my divorce started I gained about 100lbs back and felt lazy. Two months ago I started back running everyday and have dropped 40 lbs to date. Tiffany and I are getting married on January 8, 2011 and I promised myself that I would loose at least 75lbs by our wedding date and it looks like I might just get there. Yesterday we ran our first race together in well over a year and we both were really happy for each other when we were done, it was great to see her smiling face at the finish line waiting for me. We ran the 25k race and I finished in 3:24:26 which is way better then I though I would.
My longest run before yesterday was 12 miles and the longer distance of the race slowed me down a bit. Im not back to my old pace of 9:15-9:45 per minute miles yet but I'll get there. We have two half marathons planned between now and February and I'm hoping as long as I stay healthy and continue the weight loss like I have been that I'll be ready for Bear Chase Marathon in April so that I can run one Marathon before the season is over.
And in case you were wondering Tiffany did awesome as I knew she would she finished with a time of 3:12:52. Im so proud of her she kicked my butt by 12 minutes.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-33007003028987618252010-02-17T18:10:00.001-08:002010-02-17T18:18:49.592-08:00Back at itWell everything has finally settled down around here and im back at it. I've ran about 15 miles this week because I want to bring myself slowly back into it. I went out to the state park and ran the inner loop today and it was ok, I hated the mud puddles that I had to work around im just glad they were few and far between. I have since getting divored been pretty lazy, I contribute a lot of it to stress but I refuse to let that be my excuse any longer. With Hogs Hunt 50k not far away and Tiffany and I promising each other that we would run it together I have some long miles ahead of me. If you see me around give me a shout im sure there are some street runs in my future. Only other good news is that I only have 4 weeks left till I finish my EMT Class.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-50743979770248595902009-10-07T13:28:00.000-07:002009-10-07T13:51:14.418-07:00Life ChangesOk so its been many months since I last posted a blog and for good reason. I wondered how long it would take me before I let the whole world in on whats going on in my life so here it goes. After a lot of soul searching I have divorced my wife. Over the past few years I have struggled with this feeling that something wasnt right in my life but I never wanted to face it head on. Im not sure if it was the security of 19 years of marriage or the fear of "not knowing" that was holding me back. When I first began my quest to loose weight I told a lot of people that one of the first thing that you have to do in order to loose weight is find out what is depressing you and causing you to turn to food for comfort, what I was not ever willing to tell anyone is I knew what it was March 2006 that was making me so unhappy. I struggled through the weight loss alone, and went to many marathons by myself because we just didnt have the same goals or interest and it was pushing us further and further from each other. Over the past 9 months or so I have noticed that I have gained weight back and I reached a point where it was my life or change and I have chosen change. Some of you wont understnd my reasoning and thats ok I dont expect for you to because you dont and havent lived my life.
On the positive side of this my children are doing great and have adjusted better then I thought they would. I have met someone who is wonderful and makes me happy, she also is a runner and pushes me to do my best and not give up. She has a wonderful heart and great personality and we share a lot of the same interest. I have began to loose the weight that I gained back but i know its not going be easy but at least its only 59 lbs instead of 187 lbs. I am mainly writing this blog because I have heard the whispers and wanted to set everyones mind straight. Im looking forward to the Huntsville Half Marathon as it is my first big race to direct and I never realized how much goes into putting one of these on. Hope to see a lot of you there.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-78953018249583384152009-06-03T11:03:00.000-07:002009-06-03T11:09:43.228-07:00Colton's GraduationHave you ever done something In your life that you thought you were doing correctly and then when you completed what you were doing you started wondering if you did it right. That's where I am today. Colton graduates on Saturday and it has weighed heavily on my mind. I just keep asking myself did I do it right? Did I give him all of the tools he will need to be a productive member of society.
If he fails it has to be my fault and I have to take responsibility for it because it will mean I left something out that was important.

For as Happy as I am about Colton Graduating I am also sad because so many memories have been going through my head. The times he and I have spent together good and bad has given us a tight bond and even though hes not moving away I feel like Im loosing my little buddy the one that when he was just a yr old helped me put together his own toddler bed so that his new sissy could have the crib. I remember the times when I was in the police academy and working nights and having to sleep and study during the day and He would come crawl in the bed and cuddle up next to me and wake me up and the time when he was 10 and decided to play dirt clod wars with friends only to end up a the hospital getting stitches in his head from the rock no one new was in that last clod of dirt.

It is just crazy how you can go from the ultimate joy of your children being born to the internal struggle of knowing that they have become adults and you have to let them go and face the world.

I am so proud of Colton for what He has accomplished and I know that this is just the beginning for him.

Way to go little man I love you......Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-82013710528623275852009-05-26T21:12:00.001-07:002009-05-26T21:21:17.190-07:008 miles and feeling greatI went out this morning aggravated because of work and the fact I had to take care of a project from home which delayed when I got to run. I went out with six miles as the distance I was going to run because I just didn't want to run more with the mood I was in. About halfway though my run I got a great phone call from a friend on my cell. Its weird how sometimes you can feed off other peoples happiness to get you passed a slump but that is exactly what happened and before I knew it I had knocked out an 8 mile run and could have still ran more. I am starting to feel no soreness when I run which I have felt for some time now and I contribute that as part of what has been slowing me down. I hope this continues.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-39934708769419092972009-05-17T08:52:00.001-07:002009-05-17T09:15:46.429-07:00Hogs HuntWell its no secret that I have been battling with my weight the past few months. This is no surprise to me because I have known that it is going to be a life time battle. I decided to run the hogs hunt 50k yesterday what was I thinking was the first thought that came to my mind when I woke up at 430 to get ready. I made it out the park and set up the race clock for Paul with a few minor problems that were worked out after we started the race. I took my first fall at right after we hit the dirt trail. On that fall I hit the big toe that has been giving me grief since Christmas.
Somewhere along the course I met up with Karen and her friend Tiffany and stayed with them the rest of the race or at least with Tiffany, as Karen was doing great and went on ahead. at some point in the race the heat had become so high that I decided that for the most part I was going to finish this race walking but I was going to finish. Tiffany and I stayed together till the end. she kept telling me that if it wasn't for me she wouldn't have finished but the truth is because of her I finished. Sometimes in these long races my mind starts messing with me and if I would have been alone I would have never crossed the finish line.
Karen I want to thank you and Tiffany for listening to my endless chatter and thank you for introducing me to a knew friend.
If she has her way Ill be running the 50 miler with you and her.
I almost forgot my finish time was 8:00:59 I think the clock clicked but I think it had done so after I crossed the finish otherwise its an 8:01:00 either way I finished.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-35561880343743768742009-01-20T07:07:00.000-08:002009-01-20T07:22:05.020-08:00Houston Marathon ReportWell I had the worst marathon I so far on Sunday. After two weeks of training on what I thought was a broken big toe on my right foot I ran the Houston Marathon on Sunday. Everything was going good till about mile 6 when my calf started cramping on my right leg. My only thought was that my gait had changed due to the toe issue and was causing the calf to cramp. I choose to run on and it finally relaxed only to come back at mile 15 which is about the same time I started feeling really sick at my stomach. I drank water and Gatorade at every stop hoping that I would avoid dehydration. I also to some endurolytes because during rocky raccoon I had the same experience and someone gave me the endurolytes and I felt better. Well it didn't work this time, I just continued to feel worse. At mile 22 I took the beer truck up on it offer of free beer thinking that the carbs would give me the energy to continue on well at mile 24 I got to taste that beer again and it was not nice. The best part of my day was making that last turn and seeing the finish line. My finish time was 5:20:51. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. I spent and hour and a half in Medical to top it off. I'm hoping there is a lesson to be learned from this but I just cant figure it out. Well at least I finished.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-78587044749573016642009-01-01T20:20:00.000-08:002009-01-05T09:36:39.415-08:00Texas Marathon ReportI ran the Texas Marathon in Kingwood today. No time to report as of this posting because I didn't listen when I crossed the finish line so I didn't get my time. I know I finished number 120 as represented by time number around my bats neck. I saw a lot of good friends out there today and other then feeling beat up. I had a lot of fun as I usually do when I run a marathon. 17 more days till Houston. I'm pretty sure I'm ready. UPDATE: My finishing time was 4hr 35 min 26 secondsNormanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-54478003585375030292008-12-20T22:00:00.000-08:002008-12-21T05:11:03.394-08:0012milerI went out in the mist and nocked out 12 miles. It was a little warmer then I like this time of year but the mist kept me cool, except it stopped half way thru my run. I recorded 49.18 miles for the week so all in all not a bad week of running.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-28371589555275622242008-12-16T21:45:00.000-08:002008-12-16T21:48:55.894-08:00Foggy runI went out about 5 this afternoon and ran 6 miles at the track. Ken and Curtis were both there so we ran for a while together. I took it easy as this was my first run since Sugarland this past weekend. I figure ill get in some good mileage this week and next until the 26th then ill start some type of taper to prepare for the Texas Marathon in Kingwood on the first.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-73763012661874933352008-12-14T20:15:00.000-08:002008-12-14T20:24:03.626-08:00Sugarland 30KI went out and ran the 30k in Sugarland today and it was a great experience I say that because it afforded me the chance to watch on of the best runners Seven Hills has achieve a goal that she has been shooting for. Congratulations to my friend Adrienne for the wonderful run you had today. I am so proud of you you did great. As for me I feel like I really let my self down today. I cant figure out what I did wrong but I came in at 3:00:00. 15 minutes slower then last year for the same course. I guess after all the PR's I have been setting for myself things were bound to go south sooner or later but I will recover and be ready for The Texas Marathon in Kingwood on January 1st. It was great to see Holden, Jon, Bill, and Ben today and to meet Adrienne's family so it was worth the trip.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-91528604230156062642008-12-09T18:49:00.000-08:002008-12-09T18:55:06.460-08:00Long Day at WorkAfter a rather long and really busy 24 hrs at work I came home this morning ready to run and get some stress out. I went out to run about 8:30am and ran 7.50 miles I felt really tight at first but eventually loosened up and enjoyed the rest of my run. It was going great then the cold rain started so I headed to the house, because I dint have my rain Poncho with me which I don't use during races but I don't see the need to get totally soaked to train. I finally made up my mind to register for the 30k in Sugarland this afternoon so ill be running Sunday. So yesterday I decided that I would go out and jog 6 miles to see if that worked some of the soreness out well as of this morning it has helped a little. I have committed myself to start blogging a little more so I figured making sure I did one on Monday was a great way to start the week. Now I'm off to work for my 24 hr shift. While complete the short loop at the start of the race I came upon a young lady laying on the side of the course. There were a few other ladies talking to her but not really helping her. My mind said stop and help but my watch was telling me to run on as I was running with fellow 7hills member Robert Duncan and we were at a great pace. Well my mind won out I couldn't just leave her there knowing she was hurt. I started my patient assessment and found out her name was Amy and that she was from Austin and that she had tripped over a root and heard something pop in her ankle. I elevated her ankle and thus began our 45 minute wait for the medic to show up. I helped load her onto the 4wheeler and said goodbye and good luck. Then I was off again. I set my mind to playing catchup and it went pretty well for a couple of hours as I passed a lot of the people that had passed me while I was stopped.
I had planned on coming in under 6hr30min so that I bettered my Rocky Raccoon 50k time but god had other plans for me now that I look back at it I'm glad I stopped. i was able to help another human being as I have been trained to do and isn't that more important then a finishing time. On a side note my running partner finished in 5hrs 22mins 33sec. I finished in 7hrs 11min 34sec. If you take the 45 min stop off my time I would have came in under 6hr 30min. but I'm happy and I'm healthy. And ill be back next year.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-85519437763633704642008-11-15T18:57:00.000-08:002008-11-16T07:12:58.441-08:00Kats for a cause 5kI had a great day today, I woke up this morning planning on a long run. I figured I would wait until the sun came up. I had the radio playing and heard them mention that the Kats For A Cause 5k was this morning so I decided to go and run it. A large crowd showed up the said over 230 people if I remember right. The race started out crowded so I had to go around a lot of people. All was going well till we turned onto sycamore. The wind hit us right in the face. That combined with temps in the 40's made for a cold hard run. There was a pack of about 12 of us separated from the rest of the group by a fairly good distance. I wasn't sure the ages of some of the other people I was running with but when it was all said and done I ran a 23:04 and Placed first in my age group. So I had a great day. Lavonne Zaiontz our club secretary had a great day as well placing first in her age group. Ken Johnson our Club vice president also ran even though he has San Antonio on sunday. Way to go Ken and Lavonne.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-59624107604819495612008-11-08T15:54:00.000-08:002008-11-08T16:04:26.661-08:00Rocky Raccoon ups and downsToday was a new experience to say the least. I ran my first ultra marathon today. My day started out with me oversleeping and getting up with only 30 minutes till the race started. I made the start in time to stretch for a few minutes then we were off. Honestly all was great till about mile 13 when I felt a blister on the inside of my left foot. Someone gave me a piece of something called second skin and told me to pop the blister then apply the patch. Lets just say it did not work. but letting the fluid out helped alot and didn't allow the blister to get worse. All went great after that till I got to the bridges over the swamp. I had not fallen all day which was great then one the bridge I hit a board that had worked its way up. Istill don't know how I missed it the first time. I fell and it hurt like fire. I got back up and continued to run but my left ankle killed me the rest of the race causing me to walk alot more then I wanted to. I finished with what I believe was a 6hr 37min ill know for sure when they post the times. I came home and did something i have never done before. I took an ICE bath. I can say so far it has worked but it was really cold. I'm happy that I finished and I am looking forward to the Sunmart.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-5512538486147470352008-10-26T19:34:00.000-07:002008-10-26T19:44:11.730-07:00New Half Marathon PRToday went great. I ran the Luke's locker half marathon today in Houston. I could not believe how great I felt during and after the race. I had none of the usual pains that I have during the race. I actually relaxed and just ran. I have chosen not to use the power gels this year and it seems to be working out for me as I don't get that upset feeling in my stomach. I also surprising to me didn't have the soreness that I usually get when I run long distance in a race. Which I can only figure comes from pushing myself harder then I do when I train at long distance. Anyway I ran a new half marathon pr today by running a 1:50:05 which is 2 minutes faster that my fastest half. I'm hoping if this trend continues that I will be able to get in under 3 hrs in Houston. One can only hope. On a side not I would like to thank Bill Dwyer and Jon Walk for the hospitality in letting me store my bag at the woodlands tent today. And thanks Jon for the encouragement during the race it really helped.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-80206387137923346732008-10-19T07:52:00.000-07:002008-10-19T07:57:27.441-07:0016 miles and cool weatherI got up fairly early and ran the planned 16 miles yesterday morning. It felt so good outside that I really wanted to run more but I was pressed for time because Colton and I had tickets to the dynamo game. While I ran I came upon the cross country runners for the high school competing in their meet out at Katt Bar Ross and it made me want to keep running. Its great to see young people out running and know that the future of the sport we all love so much is being fostered in these young people.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-414538704890837652008-10-16T18:20:00.000-07:002008-10-16T18:25:11.837-07:00I GOT A HOUSTON MARATHON ENTRYI checked my email today and the houston marathon finally made it to my number on the waiting list WOO HOO. I finished 4 minutes faster then last year on the same course. So that was great. I would have like to have been in the top three in my age group but theres always next yr. I ended up 7th in my age group and 66 overall. Not bad for an ex fat guy who turns 37 in10 days. Congratulations to all my fellow seven hills club members who ran and finished their races today also to the volunteers and committee chairs great job well done.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-63860137781273339332008-09-30T21:20:00.000-07:002008-09-30T21:24:06.478-07:00Great day of runningWell when I got off work at 7am this morning I kinda hung out around the house for a little while. I finally went out about 10:3oam and got in 14 miles. The temp was ok and I had no pains. I also had no cramps this afternoon which tells me my body is adjusting to the greater distance per week and per run. Houston Marathon is almost to the 600's for the transfers I'm 748 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-39664477465710733772008-09-28T14:55:00.000-07:002008-09-28T15:04:36.783-07:00Good day of running!!!!!!Well after I blogged this morning I went over to Veterans Memorial for a 12 mile run. I started at the normal starting line that the club uses because i had been told if you run the whole road and back its 12 miles round trip, this is not so so I had to run down the feeder road past the front entrance to Elkins Lakes to make the distance. I was really worried that the temperature was going to rise faster then i could complete the run but even at 1230 when i finished it was still from what i could feel in the 70degree range. I really needed that hilly workout and I'm glad i did it. With the half just a few weeks away I want to be ready for the big hills at the start of the race. The only real worry I had the whole morning was that my Garmin decided to give me a message at the end of mile one, It all the sudden tells me that its battery is low. I decided to see just how far I it would last and I ran the whole thing on a low battery and it still worked. I guess i need to remember to charge it after every run.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-598628343326293576.post-56457215175568048232008-09-27T12:22:00.000-07:002008-09-28T15:06:05.689-07:00Fall Fun RunA nice group came out today for the 2008 Fall Fun Run on Veterans Memorial. The weather was great with a race start temperature of around 58. As usual anytime I run with John Slate I pushed myself out fast early and finished my first mile in 7:07 which is great for me. everything felt pretty good so I tried to to keep John in eye site even if it was at a distance man I wish I had his speed. I thought I had a pretty good lead on everyone else then I heard foot steps behind me and here came Ana Rojas and she caught me right before the turn around point. I chased her for the rest of the race until the last half mile when I finally passed her back up and took second place overall. I'm starting to think I need to find a training partner because when I run alone I don't push myself enough. Thanks John and Ana for forcing me to push myself harder. I also want to say way to go to Lavonne Zaiontz, I knew you could do it. And Ken Johnson two days after surgery out running a 10k. I told you before I hope I'm still running as strong as you when I get your age. Well I'm out for a long run enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.Normanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06707512479735969318noreply@blogger.com1
