3.29 in the Park

Well today I figured out that contrary to popular opinion my garmin will work in the park. I ran with Ken this afternoon in the park and I still believe the trails are suckering me in this makes two times with no falls its kinda scary. anyway we did 3.29 miles. I didn't want to push it to hard because I have my fire department stress test and physical tomorrow. I took yesterday off so I needed to run today.

Enjoyed running with you at the park this evening. The course we ran was 18,405 feet (3.49 miles). I measured it with an engineer wheel in December 2005. With the canopy over the trails, I'm not sure those Garmin things work well.

I'm convinced the variation between the engineer wheel and Garmin comes from the sensitivity of the satellites. The US government, for military/homeland protection reasons, only allows triangulation of 10 foot accuracy with GPS devices.

This makes for pretty accurate readings, however, it doesn't pick up all the little movements like running from one side of the trail to the other.

3.29 v. 3.49 is a variation that's a little larger than I would expect. But I think it comes down to sensitivity. That's my best guess. I'm also not sold on Garmin for trails.

If you fall, just make sure it's in the sand!

I haven't had any problem with my Garmin in the park, Norman. It was right on for time and distance at Hogs Hunt
